SNL: Seth MacFarlane/Frank Ocean

I think this episode, the premiere of SNL‘s 38th season, is one of the least funny in recent memory. Starting in the monologue with two homophobic attempts at humor and a Jew joke, I wasn’t laughing.

I fast-forwarded through almost every sketch because none of the premises were funny. I made it through the Lids/PSY thing mostly because I like seeing Bobby Moynihan dance, but there wasn’t really a joke there — it was just a set up to the PSY cameo. Out of a sense of duty, I watched all of Weekend Update and was sad that none of Seth Meyers‘s joke really landed. Surprisingly, the “Ryan Lochte reviews fall TV” was the funniest thing of the night.

Things can only go up from here. Next week has Joseph Gordon-Levitt, so I’m hopeful.
